Peter Hook

"STRANGELY ENOUGH IMPACT"

A Spoken Word Dedication To Tony Wilson

Bio:
Legendary bass guitarist Peter Hook remains energetically devoted to music, rock and roll and all the good / bad times that his three decade career with Joy Division, New Order, Factory Records, FAC 51 The Haçienda, Freebass et al have brought him.

Hooky’s been-there, seen-more-than-it all thirty years in the business has seen his bass playing redefine the instrument and inspire countless young musicians. whilst the seminal influence of New Order, and Joy Division continues today, name-checked by modern bands, such as The Killers, White Lies, The Enemy, The Chemical Brothers and Hot Chip.

As a co-owner of The Haçienda and being closely involved with the management of the club from 1986 onwards, Hooky’s turbulent tales and first hand experience of Fac 51 has been recently detailed in his first book, the inside story on that ground-breaking era, “The Haçienda - How Not To Run A Club” published Autumn 2009 to great critical and popular acclaim. A double cd, “Haçienda – Acid House Classics” highlighting many Haçienda classics and mixed by Hooky was released at the same time.

Nowadays Hooky DJ’s as far afield as Mexico, Asia and The United States exporting the inimitable vibes and atmosphere associated with FAC 51 to events all across the world.

He is a director of The Tony Wilson Experience and is recognised for his generous support for many charities with his time. He remains a passionate advocate for Manchester, its culture and its people.

Rabbit In The Moon

Rabbit In The Moon

"BLUE MONDAY"

Members:
Bunny
David Christophere
Jillian Ann

Bio:
R.I.T.M. is the most original electronic group in the world, with the release of their 12" singles, remix work, and exploration in live performance, they have established an enormous fan base that continues to grow. A band that exists on many levels, and enjoying their tenth year of attacking your senses and emotions.
The Music
Most people's first exposure to Rabbit was their song called "Out-Of- Body Experience". It was released in 1993, and is still to this day played in clubs around the world, when most other artist’s tracks are left for dead after 2 weeks. In a 2003 issue of Muzik magazine, O.B.E. was listed as the number one most sought after record in the last decade. After the release of phases of an out of body experience (remixes of O.B.E.) on Hardkiss Recordings 1994 the demand for R.I.T.M. became enormous. They began collaborating and doing remix work for everyone from Goldie, Sarah McLachlan, BT, and Garbage, to The Smashing Pumpkins, Sven Vath, Stone Roses, and Eric Clapton. Their style of electronic music is timeless, but to truly understand this group is to see and hear them live.
Rabbit in the Moon's live experience has the power to evoke emotion at will. With a mix of performance art, live video projections, and original music. R.I.T.M. create a powerful connection with their audience. In the Readers Poll Awards 1997 URB MAGAZINE, R.I.T.M. was voted the #1 live performance act in the country. They have been called the Grateful Dead & Pink Floyd of electronic music. Wherever they perform, new believers are born. For many, the show is a religious experience, lives are changed. All this from a band that has never had to grace the screens of music television for an audience. They've been on a grass roots journey, making believers one show at a time. And from New York to Tokyo all the fans with Rabbit in the Moon tattoos see and understand that. They tell the story. This isn't a now thing, it's a forever thing.

"MR. DISCO"

Members:
Sebastien Marshal - vocalist/keys/guitarist
Max Moreau - bass /guitar
Pete Dawson - drums

Bio:
DETACHMENTS are based in London, though all members are actually outsiders to the south of England. The group is led by Lancastrian vocalist/keys/guitarist/ Sebastien Marshal(born Manchester), on guitar is Max Moreau (from Antwerp, Belgium), on drums - Pete Dawson (from Leeds). Their musical framework contains traces of influences that encompass e.g. Factory Records, DFA, 1980's Synth-Pop, Punk-Funk, Electro and dark Techno (e.g. early Warp Records). Comparisons have been drawn with such greats as Talking Heads, New Order, The Cure and Depeche Mode. Despite the group's at times abstruse, cold veneer they are capable or delivering rather exquisite, wistful pop melodies. "Tuneful pathologies" as the NME put it. Emerging from the shadows, Detachments really have found The Funk and the tunes to boot. Twisted, rhythmic, subverted pop for the new decade. The illustrious set of producers the group have been working with include Trevor Jackson, Tim Goldsworthy and Andrew Weatherall. In 2008 Detachments signed to hip, London label Thisisnotanexit Records, "fast becoming the UK's Italians Do It Better" Clash Magazine.

Members:
J - vocals/guitar
Jason - drums

Bio:
J Stuart, relative of the Composer Philip Glass, founded The Cloud Room after suffering a health crisis, leading to a false positive HIV test result, an event that was later revealed in a week-long feature on the band by Pitchfork. It was during this time that he began writing songs, one of which would become "Hey Now Now". When the test was later proven false, Stuart decided to focus his life on his first love, music. In 2006, "Hey Now Now" was named by Rolling Stone as a top ten single of the year. Later that year, as the band was recording their second album in Stuart's apartment, a fire broke out and destroyed their equipment. However, the new recordings survived and became their EP "Please Don't Almost Kill Me", which was released with a Limited Edition that used melted CD cases from the apartment fire. The band is just finishing their second album.

The Dark Esquire

The Dark Esquire

"TEMPTATION"

Members:
Brian C. Repetto aka BCR

Bio:
After 15 years of leading the Art-Rock/Garage-Pop/Post-whatever combo Dumbwaiters, BCR felt it was time to move on and go "solo" with an emphasis on doing something musically/creatively different from that of the "Rock Band" formula. Inspired by a deep love of Synth-Pop, Early Electronic and Progressive Rock, 70's & 80's Disco, and the New Wave/New Romantic era as well as the current scene of artists such as Glass Candy and Lindstrom putting out their interpretations of the same styles. The Dark Esquire idea was hatched in a frenzy of post-alcoholic future-euphoria. Several rough 4-track demos were recorded and a tune called "Situation" caught the attention of THISISNOTANEXIT label founder, Simon A Carr. The label subsequently signed on The Dark Esquire. BCR is currently working at home and in the studio on the next full-length debut with collaborator and former Dumbwaiters multi-instrumentalist, James Bess, lending a hand with co-production.

Unconcerned with current trends or keeping up with the radio Joneses, the band has instead chosen to pick up the sword from early, genre-bending alt-rock influences like the Replacements and Yo La Tengo, letting the strength of the material speak for itself. Because the only thing that ultimately really matters is the song.

Original Cover Art Concept

By: Juan Lara

Juan Lara was born in San Francisco, but grew up in El Paso, Texas. In his early teens, his influence in graphic design was brought upon by eighties music album cover design.

From the earliest Joy Division and New Order album design work of Peter Saville, to the Depeche Mode album design work of Anton Corbijn.

His first notable break in cover design was winning the design contest for the Thieves Like Us, New Order Tribute, released by Something Inviting Records. From there he began to venture more into computer aided graphic and web design.

Currently, Juan Lara has designed covers for Artistic Noise, and his own music project, Electrovox. He currently helps to promote Ghost Machine, an ebm/industrial night in Las Vegas and maintains a support site for Bad Lieutenant's music.
